Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is one of most popular short trek in the Annapurna region, that provides the best sunrise/sunset views and Annapurna Himalayan view from Poon Hill. You can also unique experience for culture and tradition of Gurung and Magar people. While trekking through Rhododendron forests, you can also enjoy blooming of Rhododendron flowers.

Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is recalled as the most favored trekking route in Nepal. It is said to be one of the most exciting trekking packages that give you opportunities to explore different major attractions of the Annapurna region. Poon Hill is located at a height of 3,210 m. It consists of different hidden cultures and traditions in Nepal. The trail passes through the different Rhododendron forests and beautiful small villages. These villages consist of different ethnic groups of people with their own unique cultures and tradition. These particular ethnic groups help to identify Nepal in the international field. You’ll have an exclusive opportunity to feel the living style of people in the mountain region.

The journey to Poon Hill starts from Kathmandu then goes towards Pokhara. Then Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking begins from Pokhara that goes straight forward to Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani and finally to Poon Hill. We’ll capture each and every moment in Poon Hill and experience the panoramic views of snow-clad mountains that include Gangapurna Mountain, Annapurna South Mountain, Annapurna I Mountain, Hiuchuli Mountain and Dhaulagiri Mountain too. While returning back, we’ll follow the route of Ghandruk and Deurali to reach Pokhara. We’ll trek through the downward trail to reach Ghandruk where we can have homestay facilities.

Poon Hill can trek throughout the year. But May is said to be the best month to trek. It takes about 7 to 9 days to start from Kathmandu to Ghorepani Poon Hill depending upon the routes and interval in the trek. Here is an itinerary of 3 days Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking from Pokhara to Ghorepani.

Day by Day Itinerary

30 min from airport to hotel Bed & Breakfast 3 Star hotel or similar

When you reach Kathmandu, our representative in the airport will pick you and will transfer you to the hotel. If you are not tired then you can walk around the Thamel ( tourist ) area. You can observe the natural beauties and markets of the city. We’ll discuss the trek and enjoy your meal in the evening.



Drive 6-7 hrs, Flight 25 min All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] 3 Star hotel or similar

Today after breakfast, we drive or fly to Pokhara (the city of Lakes). Driving through the highway takes around 6 to 7 hours. One the way you will see Trishuli/ Seti River, green hills and small town by the side of highways. We will have our lunch on the way to Pokhara. After reaching Pokhara, we’ll explore the entire city and lake.


Drive1.5hrs, walk 4 hrs All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea-House / Lodge

After breakfast at hotel, our journey continues from Pokhara moving towards Nayapul by taxi or Car about 2 hours. Walking around 45 minutes from Nayapul,then begins our trek towards Tikhedhunga. We arrive at Birethanti, tourist checkpoint of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). We go for a walk through the green forest, small villages.


5-6 hrs All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea-House / Lodge

The second day of the Ghorepani Trek was the hardest section. There is climbing on 3767 of slate stairs to Ulleri. Ulleri is a small and beautiful village of the Magar community. Which can offer you the view of Mt Annapurna South. We can find several tea houses in this village. After Ulleri we can reach Banthathi.

From Banthanthi we can see Mt. Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), On the way, we cross the suspension bridge, waterfalls, rhododendron (Nepali National flower) and oak forest, But after reaching to Ghorepani you will be amazing views of Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and many other mountains. 6-7 hrs All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea-House / Lodge

Today is an exciting day of your trek, we wake up early before the sunrise for trek to Poon hill, which is the popular viewpoint for the sunrise and sunset view over the mountain. It will take about 45 minute to 1 hour ascend walk to reach Poon hill to have a beautiful sunrise view over the Himalaya.

Poon Hill is a best place to see the amazing view of panoramic mountains including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna ranges, Mt. Fishtail and surroundings. After back to Ghorepani from PoonHill, have breakfast you will begin trek to Ghandruk. On the way through the rhododendron,Oaks, Pine and bamboo forest with some villages then reach to Ghandruk.


6-7 hrs All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea-House / Lodge

We wake up early in the morning, enjoy with sunrise view over the Himalaya. Then having after breakfast, we’ll continue our trek towards Deurali. At first parts of the trek, you will have to descend down to Modi Khola, and then start climbing up to about more than 1 hour we reach to Landruk village.

Landruk is a beautiful Gurung and Magar village. We take lunch in Landruk, after lunch, we will continue the trek to Deurali. On the way from Ghandruk to Deurali we will have breathtaking mountain views, landscapes, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Fishtail and other mountains. We’ll stay overnight in Deurali.


4-5 hrs walk & 45 min drive All meals [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Tea/Coffee] Tea-House / Lodge

Today is last day of our trek. Early in the morning we can enjoy the great view of Sunrise over the mountain. After breakfast we will begin our trek to phedi via Pothana and Dhampus. Pothana is a small Gurung village which is surrounded by jungle having wonderful mountain views. And Dhampus is also gurung village. which gives you to an opportunity to look at the amazing views of Annapurna range,

Fishtail and other mountains. we will continues trek to Phedi. On the way, some good views of the Himalayas and green forests. Upon arrived Phedi, then drive to pokhara by private vehicle. We’ll stay overnight in Pokhara.


Drive 6-7 hrs, Flight 25 min Bed & Breakfast 3 Star hotel or similar

It is the time to say goodbye to the Pokhara city and heads towards Kathmandu. We’ll again prepare to drive back to Kathmandu after our early breakfast and checkout in the hotel. You can enjoy the road trip from Pokhara to Kathmandu. we can get an exciting journey along the river bank with a wonderful view of hills and the local Nepalese lifestyle. Of course, Nepal is a hilly country there are several ups downs, more than 4 thousand vehicles every day through the same road which is the main gateway to the Capital city of Kathmandu. We’ll stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Flight service is also available between two cities Kathmandu and Pokhara. You can choose this if still you do not feel safe. But we suggest taking a one-way drive and flight for return, so you can enjoy both.


30 min from hotel to airport Breakfast

The final day ends with a lot of memories of the trek. We’ll prepare for the final departure after the breakfast. Our representative will manage your flight towards your final destination.

2. How flexible is Ghorepani Ghandruk trekking itinerary?

This trekking can be completed in 3 days and can explore for 12 days depending upon the number of days you have.

3. What equipments do I need to this trek?

Good pair of trekking boots, thermal wear, fleece jacket, Down jacket, light weight wind cheater, trekking pants and shorts, long sleeve and short sleeves T-shirts, rug sack or duffle bag, personal day bag, gloves, enough pair of socks, sunglasses, headlight, woolen beanie caps, water bottle, personal toiletries, gadgets and books should be enough .

​4. What kind of weather and temperature can I expect during trekking?

Generally during March April May(spring) and September October November(autumn) you can expect clear calm and warm day while evening will be cloudy and cold.
