It is the home to one of the highest villages on the earth. There is beautiful lakes with high passes too, Buddhist monasteries and authentic Tibetan culture and tradition. You can also encounter a few of the nomadic tribes of Nepal as well as the shamanistic Bon-po religion. The highlight of Dolpo is the Shey Phoksundo National Park. Which is able to preserve a unique Eco-system that encompasses a wild variety of nature and wildlife. It is one of the unexplored corners of Nepal and definitely a rugged trek with travel experience.

The journey begins from Kathmandu driving/flight towards Nepaljung. The trek begins through different greenery forests, beautiful villages, and mountains even more.

Day by Day Itinerary

After you reach Kathmandu, a representative will help you to transfer to a hotel. After a certain time of rest, we’ll visit some religious and historical places in Kathmandu. We’ll discuss the trek late in the evening.

A morning 55 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Nepalganj a sub metropolitan city located in the terrain region of Nepal. We will stay her to explore this beautiful city and spend the night.

After breakfast and hotel check out we have a 45 minutes domestic flight to Juphal. Arriving in Juphal we can officially start our trek towards our first destination Dunai. The trail is fairly easy and we can see beautiful valley landscapes, the rivers Tulo Beri and Suli Gaad. Crossing the main suspension bridge and traversing some jungle trails we reach our destination Dunai for our overnight stay.

Morning breakfast and departure to our next destination Lingdu village. Following the Tulo Beri River on up and down wards trails we can see scenic landscapes of the Doplo district. Passing through rocky terrain with some blue pine trees the trail becomes harder until reaching Lingdu our overnight destination.

An early departure passing some Mani Walls and Chortens, the views here are spectacular we can see the mighty Kang Tokai with a height of 6294 meters and there is a chance to spot grey monkeys. The rocky landscape painted with dots of pine trees is truly a scene from a painting. The trail ascends and we cross a big suspension bridge over the Tulo Beri River. A last push through forest trails and we reach our overnight destination of the day, Laina Odar.

Breakfast and departure towards Toltol. The trail follows fresh pine forests, ascending more upwards we leave the forest behind and hike along ridges passing heavy waterfalls climbing more up on the hilltop. Now the landscape turns empty and dry from here we descend steeply until reaching the camping site of Tangum. A one hour hike and we reach Toltol our overnight destination.

The trail becomes more barren as we traverse between rocky gorges and ridges. Our destination is Dho Tarap. We have steep ascends on sharp rocky paths and crossing some valleys usually used to rest packing caravans. The trail leads further until reaching Dho Tarap village for our overnight stay.

Today is a lot of detours until reaching Numa-La Phedi Base Camp. Starting our trek we pass numerous Gompas until reaching the small settlement of Gakar where the famous Gorje Gompa is located. Continuing on towards Tokyu and a final ascend towards the Numa-La Base Camp our overnight destination.

An early breakfast and departure. Today we pass the Numa-La pass at an altitude of 5238 m. Our end destination is Danigar. The trek ascends steeply through snowy trails until we reach beautiful glacier formations which we will cross. From this point one can get some of the best views of the north Annapurnas, Kanjiroba and Dhaulagiri. After crossing the glaciers the path descends and a climbs back up again along a ridge. Spotting’s of blue sheep and the elusive snow leopard have been reported here, truly an amazing area. From here the path goes on until Danigar from where we can see stunning views of the Phoksundo Lake. Overnight stay at Danigar.

After our breakfast we continue our trek to Yak Kharka, our first point to reach is the Baga La Base Camp. Snowy trails make way for a more rocky terrain as we reach the Base Camp. The Baga La pass is tricky as it is a steep descend with loose rocks. Heavy waterfalls fall down on the rocks creating beautiful views and the trail zigzags in between. Leaving this beautiful place behind we reach the open valley and our trail becomes more flat until reaching our overnight destination Yak Kharka.

Today is a more fun day as we have more flat trails to traverse. Amazing views of the mountains and descending slowly towards the valley of Juphal. Phoksundo Lake is a short climb where the mighty 200m waterfall made from the lake is one of the most stunning views of the Dolpo Trek. The trail leads on towards Ringmo village where we stay for the night.

After breakfast we follow the Phoksundo Khola (river) and walk through green valleys. The trail is a soft descend with mostly flat areas. We continue until reaching Chhepka our destination of the day. On the way we can see the highest waterfall in Nepal of at least 330 meters truly a view not to forget. Overnight stay at Chhepka.

Today is a pleasant hike through beautiful flower fields and small villages. Descending further until we reach the Dunai River and a small ascend to Juphal for our overnight stay.

After breakfast we have an early flight back to Nepalgunj and then another flight back to Kathmandu from where u will be transferred to your Kathmandu hotel and the conclusion of our trek.
